Chronicle 84 - Back and forth

Back and forth, back and forth, with plenty of drama on the sidelines... That's how everything seems to be. My boss sat me down, told me how appreciative the company was of my work, and promised me a promotion in September. If only this conversation happened earlier, I might not be doubting the sincerity. It seems too much of a coincidence that this talk happened just when SO left, and when our unhappiness was made rather apparent. It seems to be case of "too late". That announcement doesn't seem to appeal to be much anymore.

The intern PL has since left. She made me this farewell card which was incredibly creative. It was a simple card but very personalized based on the things I've thought her. One of the best cards I've ever received hands down! She's extremely inquisitive and I enjoyed working with her very much. Too bad we can't make her stay. A new analyst LT has joined us for about a couple of weeks and so far she's working out well. She's slightly quieter than PL but does seem rather competent. You just need the right conditions and right timing, and she can be pretty chatty.

Now one thing I have a problem with though, is that the consultants have been giving us pressure to offload more work onto the new hire and the guest from London. Why can't they understand that the issue is not with the division of labour, but instead lies with the nature of the labour itself? The recent restructuring of the company has us, the analysts serving two masters at once, which obviously is going to result in several conflicts whenever it comes to resource planning.

And the second monthly report due had me and MC staying back in the office till 4.30am. This broke the previous record of 3.30am. I swear, this is really chipping away not just at sanity, but at life itself.

A consultant, LP has made a shock announcement that she would be resigning. To make things more awkward, she will be jumping ship to work in-house for a client which we pitched to! Of course, the initial reaction was that of disbelief and shock. But after calming myself down, I wonder if her decision was really unwarranted. Not that I'll claim to understand the working dynamics between the consultants, but they definitely aren't happy. Bah... That's work.

Had another badminton session with my secondary school friends again. JT, the friend which met me in London, was present, and it was good to see everyone again. I also watched the Minions with C and F sometime back and had Muthu's curry with my university mates. It's definitely the little sessions like these that keep people going especially when work is so demanding.

Anyway, I just finished the entire series of the Mentalist and the first episode of Sense8. Both TV shows are enjoyable in their own right but Sense8 is just wonderful. The particular scene where everyone in the cluster sang the song "What's up" became my favourite scene overnight. Can't wait for season II.

“Isn't it nice to think that tomorrow is a new day with no mistakes in it yet?” - L.M. Montgomery

“Have no fear of perfection - you'll never reach it.” - Salvador DalĂ

“Wandering is the activity of the child, the passion of the genius; it is the discovery of the self, the discovery of the outside world, and the learning of how the self is both "at one with" and "separate from" the outside world. These discoveries are as fundamental to the soul as "learning to survive" is fundamental to the body. These discoveries are essential to realizing what it means to be human. To wander is to be alive.” - Roman Payne
